The Museum
The rich history and unique character of the Southwest Valley (Litchfield Park, Goodyear, Avondale, Tolleson, Cashion, Liberty, and Waddell) will define the thematic content of the exhibits in the LHC. The facility will showcase the stories of the development of these original communities and the Early Pioneer Families to the area.
The exhibits will also highlight the story of Kenneth Bruce McMicken (McMicken Dam, McMicken Irrigation District, and General Manager of Goodyear Farms) and the influence of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (Goodyear Farms, Goodyear Aircraft, Goodyear Aerospace) on the Southwest Valley, the nation, and the world.
The LHC will be the crown jewel of historic Litchfield Hill, a major cultural asset in the Southwest Valley, and a new tourist destination for visitors – both out-of-state and international. There is no other facility on the west side of Phoenix that provides these unique offerings.
The Purpose
As a vibrant cultural center, the goals of the P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center will be:
- To collect and display the rich multi-cultural history of the Southwest Valley communities (Litchfield Park, Goodyear, Avondale, Tolleson, Cashion, Liberty and Waddell).
- To preserve historically significant artifacts and archival materials of the region.
- To provide public access to our research library and archive.
- To provide space to engage the public in the exploration of the history, arts, and culture of the region through a diverse array of programs that will inspire the heart, stimulate the mind, and soothe the soul.
- To provide outreach programs to area schools and summer programs for children.
- To provide community space for meetings and private events.
